- Carbohydrates and hydration are very important. - Fluid cools heated muscles, and prevents dehydration. It also prevents damage to organs by diluting toxic waste, aiding oxygen transport to cells, transporting waste from to body, and eliminating CO 2 via the blood plasma. Pre-performance - Aims to sufficiently fuel the athlete and ensure that they are well hydrated for competition. Dietary recommendations - Sustained, endurance competitions, e.g. triathlons require more kilojoules to fuel metabolism than less demanding events, e.g. 100m sprint. - Consume easily digestible foods, e.g. liquid meals. - Avoid fats, protein, and fibre, as they take longer to digest → discomfort and indigestion. - Avoid large amounts of food/ water → stitch, which will impair ...
