Birth technologies and surrogacy both raise many complex, social, emotional and parenting issues in order to reflect moral and ethical standards. There has been a lack of law reform in these areas, which has created inconsistencies between jurisdictions in Australia, reducing the effectiveness of the law and creating inequities between people in different states. Recent law reform has gone some way in addressing these issues, however, the law must be continually reformed in order to reflect the changing nature of family relationships and ensure the protection of children.
