Module B Citizen Kane Speech Transcript
In 1941, the release of Orson Welles, Citizen Kane, saw the New York Times label it as, "riding the crest of perhaps the most provocative publicity wave ever to float a motion picture”. Withstanding contextual influences and alterations, this historically epic melodrama has endured time, continuing to rouse meaning for the individuals of yesterday, today and tomorrows humanity. Setting precedent for a new world of cinematography, Welles supposedly created a political allegory warning against the dangers of isolationism. Nonetheless, as the decades roll on and society sees transformative modifications the messages elucidated through Kane have incited new value and significance to each viewer. Consequently, ladies and gentlemen the prodigious, challenging nature of Citizen Kane withstood time not solely due to its ground-breaking camera work, but rather its ability to prompt onlookers to question why we indulge in voyeuristic experiences. Acknowledged often as one of the greatest, if not the paramount of film, Welles created a cinematic masterpiece that ultimately revolutionised the course of cinema.
