Hamlet addresses ideas such as existentialism and the human condition, and whether it is worth existing in a world tarnished by evil and sin. Shakespeare's Hamlet is universally considered the most important play of his career. It is an extremely well written piece of literature that captivates the audience from beginning to end. Hamlet has been described as 'a bleak portrait of a world in which the balance has been disturbed', and to a large extent, this perspective aligns with my understanding of the play. Both the character Hamlet as well as the others he interacts with in the play present a bleak portrait of a world that is unbalanced due to power, revenge murder and unnatural love. Themes and motifs explored throughout the play such as 'the nation as a diseased body', revenge, the supernatural and incest help shed light on this statement.
