In William Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’, Prospero discovers, through the use of his knowledge to control others, the significance of forgiveness and redemption, which consequentially redefines his own perceptions of himself and others. Similarly, Sean Penn’s film ‘Into the Wild’ follows the experiences of Chris McCandless, wherein his perceptions of his family and the materialism of society are challenged through his discoveries of freedom and forgiveness.
