The inherent capacity of discoveries in intellectually and emotionally transforming individuals has powerful ramifications of renewing the perceptions the individual has on their identity and the world. These discoveries embody the experience of uncovering something unfamiliar or forgotten and are explored in James Bradley’s novel Wrack (1997) and Matthew Thorn’s 2014 short film Where Do Lilacs Come from (Lilac). The subsequent compelling ramifications are elucidated in both texts through the protagonists’ respective conditions hindering their ability to access their discoveries and the realization of mutable nature of discoveries.
