Area of Study - Belonging
English (Advanced)
4 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
Make sure you relate everything to belonging. In essays don’t even try to be subtle just do it and show them that you understand what it means. Basically, you’re just saying that Belonging is a multi-faceted concept that is not just black and white, it is a complex process. It can be derived from lots of areas (insert themes from rubric: ie. Belonging through relationships, belonging through place, belonging through community) and it affects all individuals. Finally, make sure you constantly refer back to the essay question. This is the easiest way to boost low marks to the B range/low A range (if you’re struggling) because the marking criteria almost always has one dot point as “how successfully did this person answer the question in relation to the theme asked in the question” and if you do that well, you can easily get an A for that dot point even if you don’t use big words or use complex techniques. If you can work on your writing style (how well your words flow…ie. read them out aloud) and you write really well, this will boost your marks up to the top A range. But the same thing happens vice versa, as even if you write with amazing flair and style, you’ll still lose marks if you don’t’ relate it to the question + put in enough techniques to substantiate your thesis .
