Quotes: Act 1: - Iago demonstrates to the audience in his first interaction with Rodrego that he is only following Othello not out of loyalty but to serve his own rise to power, by turning on him and portraying him at the right moment “Believe me, as sure as your name is Roderigo: if I were the Moor, I would not want Iago as my servant. In following him, I'm really just following myself. God may judge me. I swear I'm not serving Othello out of love and duty, but merely appearing to, for my own purposes.” - Later in Act 1 Iago can be seen telling Rodrego about his plan to slander Othello by injuring his Wife's families pride. Furthermore the way he goes about this is in a manner that paints Othello as a beast, not at all human. This entire portion of act one shows how he does not care about the feelings and pride of other people and he is willing to manipulate them and hurt them to get what he wants. “Call up Desdemona's father. Wake him up. We'll slander Othello in the streets, and ruin his happiness by getting his wife's family all riled up.” “You're letting your daughter mate with a Barbary horse. Your grandchildren will neigh to you. You'll have ponies and colts for descendants.” Act 2: [To himself] You are happy now, but I'll ruin your happiness, no matter how honest you may think I am. - Iago speaks to himself, telling himself that no matter how others see him (specifically Othello), he will ruin Othello’s happiness. Which to him, is an end that justifies his own spiteful means. Sir, Cassio has a bad temper, and maybe he'll try to hit you. Provoke him so that he will. Then, if he hits you, I'll use that as an excuse to stir up a riot of the inhabitants of Cyprus—a riot that won't die down until Cassio is stripped of his position as lieutenant. - Iago shows the audience that he doesn’t care for Roderigo’s own health and will manipulate him and by extension Cassio so that his own pla
