DESCRIBE AND ANALYSE THE PROCESSES UNDERTAKEN WHEN DESIGNING - Identifying needs and processes o It is the most important part of our thought and ideas. o Designing something is about finding solutions meet to people’s needs. - The design brief o Highlights the problem to be solved or the need to be met. o Can be open ended – where the designer has complete freedom or can be very tight – design specifications are given and guidelines need to be followed. o It answers some of the questions the designer might pose. - The constraints o A constraint is a limitation or control that must be followed. o E.g. Budget - Research/investigation o Collecting information that considers all aspects of the problem. o Info can be found in books, online, past design ideas etc. o Research must be ongoing during design process. o Investigation process looks at ways in which the project can be achieved. - Design specification and inspiration o It consists of the concept, criteria and constraints. o Inspiration can come from a variety of sources and research. o Brainstorming a good way to come up with initial ideas. - Initial design ideas o They are just quick sketches of ideas. - Adaptations of ideas o Involves sorting through ideas and selecting the ones that are most promising for further development. o This refinement includes form, addition of detail and clarification of how certain aspects could go together.
