Some peoples’ values are more predominant than others, depending on a number of contributing factors that include religion, education, social, economic and political opinions. An individual’s values are often what influences, and therefore shapes their opinions, actions and thoughts. A significant proportion of an individual’s lifestyle choices and greatly dependent on their values, for example; eliminating alcohol from one’s diet whilst pregnant or not participating in the consumption of illicit drugs. Other factors that have the potential to influence an individual’s values include family and socio-cultural influences such as respect for elders and religious influences including attitudes toward abortion and euthanasia (assisted death).
