A redox reaction is a type of a chemical reaction that is the transfer of electrons between two species[ CITATION Chr21 \l 2057 ]. When the chemical reaction occurs, the transfer of electrons, as one species loses an electron(oxidising), this is due to one species having a lower electro-potential and the other species having an higher electro-potential (reduction), thus more likely to gain an electron. Electrode potential is measured in electrode volts, and this is the standard unit of measurement when predicting the spontaneity of the cell reaction[ CITATION BYJ22 \l 2057 ]. Electrode potential is an species ability to attract the valence electrons to become stable. Such as Iodine’s electro-potential is 0.5355 and the ascorbic acid electro-potential is 0.081 electron volts. When involving a redox reaction, a balanced chemical equation must be written so that two half equations of those two species so that the element can be identified whether it is gaining an electron (oxidising) or losing it electron (reducing). This experiment will use elements such as iodine, chlorine, hydrogen and oxygen to determine whether changing the type of orange juice will affect the concentration of vitamin c compared to fresh squeezed juice. This will be done by setting up a titration process to add iodine to the solution of a diluted orange juice sample to determine the end point of the orange and how much iodine it requires to produce that end point.
