How Does Flynn Present Ideas About the Journey of Life in 'The Furthest Distances I've Travelled'?

English Literature

4 Pages Essays / Projects Year Uploaded: 2023

Leontia Flynn unravels within her poem the youthful energy deriving from the excitement and adrenaline of travelling and discovering utopian places, through highlighting the playful nature of the speaker. The speaker being part of a much more global community of travellers is captured right from the beginning of her poem, “like many folk”, which eventually branches off to the singular personal pronoun “I” as they reflect back upon the perhaps nostalgic memories of the first time she put on her “rucksack” in hopes of her explorations which are yet to come, whilst also embodying a rather nervous and tentative nature which is evoked by the words “saddled” and “weight”, as realisation comes upon her about the difficulties and struggles which accompanies the action of travelling.
