In Arthur Miller’s play ‘The Crucible’, Deputy Governor Danforth is a man obsessed with the judicial system to the point where he loses sight of what is right and wrong and instead is fixated on upholding his own reputation despite the dire consequences. He represents the flaws of Salem’s court and exemplifies the religious hypocrisy that was wide spread at that time, as he is keen to show how he is doing God’s work, when the only results of his actions are that innocent people are hung for no crime of their own.
