Traces of vinegar have been discovered in Egyptian urns traced back to around 3000 B.C., and Babylonian texts traced back to roughly 5000 B.C. document the usage of vinegar (Womersley Foods, 2022). Since vinegar allowed food to be transported across vast distances, Babylonians employed it as a condiment and preservative. It was used to quench thirst by farmers and travelers in ancient times when mixed with water (Vinegar Origins, 2022). In ancient times, vinegar was known as "poor man's wine" (posca), and it was frequently carried by Roman legionnaires; the Bible records that Roman soldiers offered vinegar to Christ at the Crucifixion (Womersley Foods, 2022). Besides, "Oxycrat" was the most popular drink in ancient Greece. It was made by combining water, vinegar, and honey and kept in oxydes, which were unique vases (Vinegar Origins, 2022).
