Silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is an oxide of silicon with the chemical formula SiΟ_2. Silicon dioxide is a combination of silicon and oxygen, two very abundant, naturally occurring materials. There are many forms of silica. They all have the same makeup but may have a different name, depending on how the particles arrange themselves. In general, there are two groups of silica: crystalline silica and amorphous silica. Silicon dioxide is widely used in our daily lives such as food additives, construction materials, microelectronics et cetera. This research is carried out to determine the percentage of pure silica from construction sand and beach sand. In the experiments, construction sand and beach sand are extracted to obtain pure silica. Then, silicon dioxide extracted is weighed to obtain the data required for the calculation of percentage purity. Last but not least, the percentage of pure silicon dioxide containing by construction sand and beach sand are compared.
