The catalase enzyme consists of four polypeptide chains, each with over 500 amino acids. Catalase's four iron-containing groups enable it to interact with the H2O2 and catalyze it into O2 and H2O. As the substrate interacts with two amino acids by entering the active site, causes a proton to transfer between the oxygen atoms. This forms a new water molecule and an oxygen atom.
