NEUROBIOLOGICAL PROCESSES Our behaviour, personality and thought processes are affected by neurobiological processes and can be altered by any damage to our nervous system. If we feel anxious or tense, happy or carefree, this can be in our “head”, or rather our cerebral hemispheres. Scientists in the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) have conducted research that suggests that the brain’s hemispheres affect our emotional view on life. Because of this, brain damage can change our emotions, distort our judgements of emotion and distort our “normal” mood. This suggests that the two hemispheres of the brain work together to create a delicate balance of our emotions and moods, so when that balance is altered by brain damage, this can affect our moods and how we respond to situations. Brain damage can therefore affect our balance.
