13 Pages Essays / Projects Year: Pre-2021

Once an organisation selects a project, the project manager is responsible for developing a request for proposal (RFP) for different aspects of the project (see appendix 2.1 of the text book for more information on RFP). The RFP is announced to external contractors/vendors, and they respond with a proposal. However, in most cases a project manager should develop a more thorough knowledge about the products or services purchased, the production processes that the vendors use (or should use to be competitive), and the cost situation for raw materials and components used. Analysing each candidate is crucial when selecting a contractor/vendor. The goal is to better understand if the prices offered are decent, to be used in both phases of contractor selection and negotiation. The case “West Bay Industries”1 illustrates this point. You should read through the case, prepare a very well structured comparison of different candidates and report your findings.
