This report entails the investigation and analysis into how a company values and issues returns to its investors, specifically for Qantas and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. From our findings the most common form of returns are via dividends and share repurchasing schemes. Whilst, the most crucial factors influencing a manager’s decision to implement one of these options include current and future earnings, potential for growth and the external market. Qantas, due to a poor performance over the past decade, has not implemented a dividend since 2007-2008. On the other hand, CBA has produced consistent periods of growth, resulting in regular interim and final dividends being paid.
