Is Human Memory for the Details of Past Events Reliably Accurate? GPA7
NEUR1020 - The Brain and Behavioural Sciences
8 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021 • Previously uploaded under: PSYC1020 - Introduction to Psychology: Minds, Brains and Behaviour
Memory is the capacity in human brain that aims to store and accumulate the individual’s previous experiences and feelings. Not all the events can be recalled, furthermore, the remembered memory were also unreliable (Laney & Loftus, cited in Porter, Brinke, Riley & Baker 2014). The famous ‘forgetting curve’ indicated that people cannot recall almost half of information after remembering one hour (Lacy & Stark, 2013). This essay will debate that human is unable to recall the accurate details about experiences from the past. Zhu et al. (2011) argued that the misleading information results in the false memory that can persist in human’s brain for a long time. This statement is also supported by Porter et al. (2014) that the memory will be distorted with the interference of emotional affect.
