(a) TEACHING UNIT It contains a clear rationale/overview that demonstrates the linkages between the teaching unit and the syllabus It is linked clearly to the Geography Syllabus for a Year 11/12 class. It covers the key ideas/ questions contained in the relevant core unit in the Geography Syllabus. It indicates which key ideas have been selected to link with the unit and what learning experiences will be implemented. It outlines a possible lesson sequence containing a balance of activities and a range of resources. This should be presented in outline form as in Handout “Unit Planning in Geography” – Lecture 4 (or similar) so the sequence of learning experiences intended, key ideas introduced and possible resources to be used, are apparent It develops the skills relative to the unit of work, resources used and particularly focuses on the assessment item planned. It contains ideas for essay practice leading to the assessment piece being completed. It has a linked assessment item containing marking criteria (b) ASSESSMENT ITEM It covers the assessment technique requirements as outlined on page 47 of the Geography Syllabus It includes the appropriate exit criteria you intend to assess through your essay as outlined on pages 45-46 and Table 10 (p 49) of the Geography Syllabus. It must be a stimulus response essay and have stimulus materials attached It must be associated with a skill development program leading to the assessment It must include instructions to the student on how the essay is to be answered – this may be a scaffolded series of questions, or instructions on how to approach their response to the question. It must clearly show : Year level Core unit Unit topic Conditions for application of assessment Criteria the students should apply for their decision-making Criteria by which the essay will be marked
