Moral panic topic Summarized Cohen’s theory of moral panics, and identified its key elements. Chose appropriate newspaper articles that aided their argument/s. Drew on the newspaper articles (giving good examples, using quotes, etc) to present a convincing argument about whether the media is contributing to a moral panic around the issue of young women and violence. Incorporated relevant literature into their argument to present a more convincing essay. Considered possible reasons why it appears that women are becoming increasingly violent – e.g., changes in female roles in society, traditional ideas about femininity, increase in arrest rates etc. Clearly outlined the key strengths and limitations of Cohen’s theory. Presented a clearly structured, well-written, critical assessment of this issue.
