Suspension in a car is important as it is the point of interaction between the car and the terrain. Suspension in a solar car is substantial at the model level as power input is minimal and therefore power to the wheels for movement needs to be maximised. A significant obstacle to that goal is the resulting inefficiency related to rolling resistance and shock absorption and handling. Design Rules: 1. Maximise Camber angle (decreases rolling resistance) 2. Minimise Toe and Slip angles (decreases tyre scrubbing) 3. Increase low frequency shock "springing" (minimise shock) Technical Problems: As the racecourse is a tiled brick footpath and model solar car wheels are of small radius, small imperfections in the path of the car will have a great effect on the rolling of the wheels.
