Conformity means a certain type of social influence by individuals that would result in a compliance in particular beliefs or behaviours due to the group pressures or social expectations. Group pressure refers to any direct or indirect influences applied by a group towards particular individual to intervene in his or her decision-making to change the values, behaviours or attitudes. It is believed that individuals tend to comply with the social norms or the majority’s opinions to fit in the group even though they might know that the choice was incorrect (Mori & Arai, 2010). Asch conformity experiments were conducted to further verify the above phenomenon.
