An active research area in social psychology over the years is the study of the conformity of an individual to a group. We behave under the influences of others like our parents and friends, and skew our opinions and trust based on our favourite celebrity endorsers or even unknown people. The term “conformity´ is an instance of social influence, and is used to describe behaviour which is influenced by a group, in an attempt to establish a more harmonious atmosphere between the individual and others (Allen, 1965). It is usually understood when we mean conformity to something, such as the effects of social pressure to a group norm or standard. Social norms - which usually refers to what is acceptable or not in a society or group, and are informal rules that govern an individual¶s behaviour (Bicchieri, et al., 2018) - are often challenged and conflicted by individuals as they find their own opinions and values incongruous with others. There have been many researches which study this phenomenon and a variety of factors that affect this behaviour, with the most notable one being the Asch conformity experiment (Asch, 1956).
