L’Oréal is a multinational cosmetic company that is headquartered in France with multiple subsidiaries in different countries. Due to the nature of the business, the company developed a system where each subsidiary had their own autonomy to decide what brand and product lines to procure providing each country units with the opportunity to operate independently (Mark 2010, pg. 2). As of 2006, statistics showed that the emerging markets played in 22 percent of L’Oréal’s overall sales which was more than the sales in Europe and North America.
