6 Pages Essays / Projects Year Uploaded: 2021

As a future educator, I believe it is my responsibility to develop a culturally responsive pedagogy so that my students can experience a positive learning environment. The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 1.4 (AITSL) is necessary for my studies to become a teacher. It touches on developing strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students. There are five factors that I will consider to successfully implement effective pedagogies, which will enable me to have extensive knowledge of ATSI students. The first factor I will explore is how my identity and cultural background have shaped my world perspective. Then I will examine ways to avoid stereotyping against ATSI students and how I can effectively engage with ATSI families and Indigenous communities. Finally, for the last two factors, I will look into pedagogical practices in the classroom and approach the AITSL standards to fulfil my role as an educator.
