Western Australia’s temporary migrants are majorily sourced from the UK, Philippines, Ireland, US and India. Immigration of temporary foreign workers play an essential role in Australia’s resources industry by filling up high-skilled vacancies that cannot be filled domestically in the short term (NSW Business Chamber, 2012). Growth in the labour force would stall if immigration of foreign workers does not take place to meet the high labour demand in Australia which could result in labour shortage that risks causing wage inflation (McDonald, 2012). Economic growth in Australia is driven by the 3 Ps - population, participation, and productivity. Immigration contributes to growth in all 3 Ps by bringing people into Australia who are concentrated in the prime working ages of 25 to 44 years, have a high propensity to work and are highly skilled.
