Defining Human Rights – no general, settled definition • No agreed definition but basic agreement that they relate to: The unique value of each person and their common humanity The importance of recognising every individual’s dignity – as human being have right to dignity • They are universal – every person has them; • They are inalienable –cannot be taken away; • They are underpinned by the notion of justice, fairness, equality and dignity. • Most cultures and religions support the notion of human rights, but interpret these fundamental notions differently.
