This is my major essay for ARTS2034 on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. This essay received a HD mark. The question being answered: Northrop Frye claims that “in striking contrast to tragedy, there can hardly be such a thing as inevitable comedy, as far as the action of the individual play is concerned… Happy endings do not impress us as true, but as desirable, and they are brought about by manipulation” (Anatomy of Criticism, 1957). Assess the validity of this claim in relation to As You Like it, or Twelfth Night, or both of these plays.
