Modulation of Semantic Masked Priming Effects by Task Type, Valence, and Anxiety
PSY101 - Psychology 1A
9 Found helpful • 14 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
The aim of this study was to examine unconscious processing within a masked semantic priming paradigm and explore how unconscious processing is influenced by negative and positive valence, also the effect of task types, and individual differences for anxiety and happiness. The hypothesis that there would be a greater priming effect in the meaning judgement tasks than the stress judgement tasks was supported. The hypothesis that there would be a greater priming effect for negative valence words than positive valanced words was supported. Lastly, the hypothesise that there would be a correlation between anxiety and negative valence priming effects was partially supported. It was concluded that while simple negative and positive valence priming tasks produce priming effects if attention is directed elsewhere priming effects may not be found.
