4 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
This document contains section two of year 12 math direct investigation, with only part 2 questions 1-4, other questions in part 2 not included. The slope of a curve is the magnitude which describes both the direction and steepness of the shape, mathematically measured as the ratio of the y step to the x step of the line. Various slopes are found throughout everyday lives, especially when determining the rate of change of functions depicting the motion of a particle. In these scenarios, an instantaneous rate of change is used, which is the rate of change at a moment in time. In this investigation, using the fundamentals of differential calculus; an approach in determining the instantaneous rate of change providing the knowledge and understanding of different applications of mathematical methods to situations involving transport will be explored. Contexts include using various mathematical concepts to analyse vehicle performances.
