Some of the films that Boyle references in the movie Sunshine are 2001: A Space Odyssey and Alien, which are both iconic sci-fi films. The religious aspects of the film also make reference to Greek Mythology. References to other science fiction movies are heavily present in the movie Sunshine. Danny Boyle himself states that the three big Sci-Fi films, 2001, Solaris and Alien, “...are there and you are judged against them.” The echoes of 2001 and Alien are presented as somewhat obvious references if not identical copies. The interior of the ship in Sunshine is influenced by the interior of the ship in Alien if not identical. The aesthetic of the scenes where the crew explore the interior of Icarus 1 are similar to the design of the ship in Alien, whereas the look of the ship Icarus 2 could be compared more to the interi...
