While Lawrence’s protagonist Katniss Everdeen and Weir’s depiction of the character Truman were both created for “entertaining” others, the two heroes differ in various ways, including their rise as a hero. Lawrence’s final film of The Hunger Games, “Mockingjay Part 2”, characterises Katniss Everdeen by her unexpected rise as not only a hero but also a leader. Through Lawrence’s use of high-camera angles and focused shots of her life, she is initially presented as a girl who is bombarded with constant manipulation and challenges, who is in the end, able to stay true to herself and rise through her struggles as a hero. Her portrayed willingness to rescue the Districts from the Capitol’s control is a key factor that sets her apart from other heroes. Contrastingly, in Weir’s film “The Truman Show”, Truman is instead defined by the characteristics in his heroic journey of learning about the world that was created for entertainment, this, for the most part, is different from Lawrence’s hero. It is through the character’s experiences of orchestrated relationships, set up by the onscreen directors and his constant efforts to search for the truth that Truman is in the end able to find out the truth and choose his own life.
