It is sometimes argued that this will create a pool of undesirable genes that will reduce the viability of the human species. This essay will first explain how such a pool might be produced, and then will consider the associated concerns about our species’ genetic viability. Included in the discussion is consideration of whether or not it is likely a significant pool of undesirable genetic traits will build up, considering factors such as availability of modern medicine, advances in gene therapy, screening of human embryos and long term medical advances. These factors will influence whether or not a reservoir of unfavorable genes builds up and reduces the viability of the species.
