Globalisation and Organ Traficking

SOCU2112 - Global Political Economy

7 Pages RMIT University Essay / Project Year: Pre-2017

In this essay I will begin with an overview of globalisation and organ trafficking. I will then argue that globalisation has facilitated organ trafficking through increasing inequality and technical capacities. I contend the situation might be improved by state interventions such as some form of direct or indirect incentives given to people for donating organs, thus eliminating the need of a black market. My overall argument is that due to globalisations production of socioeconomic disparities the organ trade has flourished as technological advancements allow individuals to purchase body organs with minimal government regulation or intervention. In addition, the growing demand for organs has created a competitive market based economy that perpetuates a hierarchy where the wealthy and privilege exploit low socioeconomic individuals for organs.
