4 Pages Essays / Projects Year: Pre-2021

In most companies it appears that the practice of ethics and corporate social responsibility will inevitably clash with the primary corporate objective of profit making.  The evidence of the global financial crisis tells us that financial institutions are particularly vulnerable to this clash. Australian banks have strongly stated governance, and corporate ethics/code of conduct expectations, and espoused practices. So what do Australian banks do to ensure their own ethical practices? And what are the currently identified danger areas, both internally in the banks’ own practices, and externally with their business with customers and local and international stakeholders? Consider what is the reality of their practice as seen through the mass media and scholarly investigations, as versus their own statements about their internal practices – ie reality vs rhetoric – is there a gap?
