Since then the importation of seafood has been on an incline, in particularly prawns which was valued at a total of $620 million, equating to 48 thousand tonnes in 2015-16 (Writers, 2017). The Australian demand for prawns is undoubtedly high although local supply is not enough to cover for such demands which forces the importation of prawns from overseas countries. At the end of 2016, the Queensland seafood industry took a massive hit from a white spot disease (WSD) found in green prawns and many farmers believe this is a result of imported green prawns. According to farmers such diseases can enter their waterways simply through bait, crab bait or by prawns being thrown in the water (McCarthy, 2016).
