Market efficiency is closely related to the capability of the market to convey information relevant to market participants and the available information can be used by investors effectively (Rao, 2017, p. 4). In addition, Ritter (2003, p. 433) claims that it would be difficult for investors to make consistent excess profits in efficient markets as market prices respond promptly to publicly available new information in an unbiased fashion. Therefore, investors might adopt an equity fund management firm to help them invest in stocks and shares in the market. An equity fund management company is a company that pools investors’ funds to invest directly into securities towards an objective of outperforming an investment market index (Australian Securities & Investments Commission, 2018). Funds would be managed either actively or passively.
