“Diesel fuel is a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained by distillation of crude oil. The important properties which are used to characterize diesel fuel include cetane number, fuel volatility, density, viscosity, cold behaviour, and Sulfur content.” (Majewski & Jääskeläinen, 2020) While “Biodiesel is defined as a mixture of long-chain Fatty Acids Methyl Ester derived from renewable lipid sources, such as vegetable oil or animal fat, which can be used in compression ignition engines with little or no modifications.” (Luna et al., 2009) Since biodiesels are claimed to be all natural and from organic sources, a hypothesis is made that diesel fuel contains synthetic chemicals and therefore would result in more emission of 〖CO〗_2 and 〖NO〗_x. Diesel contains 〖CO〗_2 emissions, particulates and produces other sort of pollutants. Biodiesel produces 〖CO〗_2 but is consumed in the production of triglycerides that are used to make fuels, therefore this type of fuel is more carbon neutral. Furthermore, biodiesels produce less pollutants which is more energy efficient than diesel.
