David Cameron argued that the 2011 London riots were not about poverty, but about behaviour. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? In just over four days 15,000 people took to the streets to protest the death of Mark Duggan, who was shot by the police whilst resisting arrest (Nijjar 2015). Violent unrest spread through the country, ‘initially in London and subsequently in a number of English cities, resulted in five deaths, injuries to dozens of police officers and civilians and damage to and loss of property running into the tens of millions of pounds’ (Newburn 2014, p 40).
