‘A Safe Operating Space For Humanity’: A Critical Review
ENV118 - Environmental Management for a Changing World
3 Found helpful • 5 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
A recent article in Nature, ‘A safe operating space for humanity’ (Rockstrom et at., 2009), suggests that our lifestyle as a species is not sustainable, and is slowly crossing the boundaries that balance our planet’s biophysical processes. As part of Macquarie University’s “Sustainability Week” you would have been exposed to copious amounts of information on climate change; biodiversity loss; and environmental cycles, such as nitrogen and water. As students it is important to consider the validity of such materials by deciphering between those which are candid in their claims, supported by accurate scientific investigation; and those which are speculative in nature.
