The law is one set of compulsory and legal rules that we are all required to obey if we live in its jurisdiction. The law is founded upon ethics and many of the ethical rules are underpinned by the law. However, they are not identical and something that is ethically wrong without breaking the law (tell a lie, break the promise). The law is not enforcing all ethical rules considering the difficulty and expense associated with the enforcement and intrusiveness into the lives of individuals. Society functions can be more effective when individuals obey the ethical rules. 1.
