For the first assignment in the intro Banking and Finance unit @ Caulfield. This report provides a discussion of the flows of funds in a financial system through both direct and indirect channels. Methods of analysing these channels include graphs, diagrams and extracts from financial reports. This paper draws attention to the direct financing channel that is the stock market and how it can impact an economy's growth and productivity. It is revealed that although the stock market directly affects an economy's growth, it is only a fraction of what the banking system provides. The Indirect flow of funds through ADI's securitisation process is also discussed along with the impact that the global financial crisis had on the market for mortgage backed securities. The securitisation market may have triggered the GFC, however broader causes may explain the extent of the crisis. This report finds that the direct and indirect processes of funding is vital in any economy
