Whilst this exchange relationship ensures that both parties are giving something of themselves to the other, the “pricing” of sex could be as little as a couple of drinks or as much as the promise to marry. The video suggests that society is what dictates the “market value” of sex and that men and women learn from one another what is to be expected for the exchange of sex. Gagnon and Simon’s (Jackson & Scott, 2010, pp.13) contribution of sexual scripts certainly supports this notion, but only to the extent that society creates guidelines for appropriate sexual behaviour and beliefs. What the video fails to address is that humans are complex beings and the desire for sex is more than simply supply and demand.
