An understanding of the tactics and strategies of the Viet Minh, the constant changes in French Government during the war and furthermore France’s failure to adopt appropriate military strategies and tactics is needed. Viet Minh in English translates to “The League for the Independence of Vietnam”. The Viet Minh was founded in China in May 1941 by the Communist Ho Chi Minh. Whilst the organisation was primarily made up of Communist peoples, it was open to people from all political backgrounds so long as they wanted to help Vietnam gain its independence.
