Hand-In Assignment Task – Essay on Khmer Rouge – Score; Full Marks Intro: The Khmer Rouge were a significant political group which created a holistically negative impact upon Cambodia and its people. Although the Khmer Rouge believed their regime upon Cambodia was bound for success, it ended up having detrimental impacts upon their society. Politically, the government changed from a monarchy to a dictatorship, under Brother Number One, Pol Pot. Economically, there was a shift in structures to become an agrarian society, adhering to the “Year Zero” policy. Socially, the Khmer Rouge broke-down and fractured the traditional cultural andsocial values of Cambodia. Thus, the Khmer Rouge regime is remembered as one of the most heinous, as its effects are still present in Cambodia almost 40 years on.
