Refer to TWO contemporary issues in your response Over time the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees have shifted due to changing societal values. Overall, the system of law reform has been reasonably effective in responding to these issues. Two contemporary issues which have seen changing rights and responsibilities are those of discrimination and of safety in the workplace. Discrimination is the unfavourable treatment of an individual or group based on a given characteristic such as race, gender or age. For most of human history, discrimination was expected and commonplace. However, values began to shift in the early 20th century. The UN, as a response to the horrific discrimination in WW2, drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), and then later the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966).
