Violence is a contemporary issue in society which is displayed in both Texts by Robert Cormier and Matthew Vaughn. Violence is a behaviour involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill. In the novel “We all Fall Down”, Robert Cormier presents his perspective of violence through the young boys whom trashed the house. Harry flowers, the main perpetrator and his gang break into a house and destroy it. Soon after Karen Jerome arrived home and was raped and pushed down the stairs. “they managed to invade every room in the house, damaging everything the touched “ (pg.1) this quote tells us the extant at which the vandalises went through and that there no regrets. The theme of violence is illustrated through such violent verbs such as ‘smashing’ and ‘trashing’ and reinforced emotionally by the simile of ‘like striking back at his mother and father and the whole god dam world.’ this creates the suspense of the actions happening right at the moment ‘One of them, still holding the hammer that had demolished the piano, greeted her’, clearly reflects on the violent actions.
