Iñárritu’s multilingual post-modern film Babel, in the context of a declining late capitalist post 9/11 world dominated by an inherent multitude of fear and terror, supports Furedi’s essay, ‘the search for meaning goes on’; depicting “a palpable sense of moral disorientation and bewilderment,” after a historical turning point. Non-linearly and chronologically fragmented, Babel’s ‘circular’ story line consists of four overlapping and competing ‘mini – narratives’ whereby cultural relativism is challenged by political absolutism.
